Mahi-Mahi
Locally, mahi-mahi (dolphin fish) are also caught by short lengths of hand-line by local Dominican fishermen. The fish shown on this page, however, were caught using rod and real.

The photo (at top of page) was taken one early morning 45 miles west of Dominica, having traveled most of the distance to the location in dark in a small, locally made boat with a single 40 hp engine. The sea was so oily-calm, that we could stand on the boat seats without fear of being rocked overboard by waves or swells.
